Tamaqua Elks Hoop Shoot winners

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13 yrs, have been named Tamaqua Elks Champions during the first round of competition in the 38th annual Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest held in the Tamaqua Elementary School gym on Saturday, Dec. 5. First and second place winners and their parents were invited to the Elks Lodge for refreshments and trophy presentation. Trophies were awarded to the boy and girl champions and runner-ups in each of three categories from ages 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13. The six first place champions will now advance to the next round of competition at the Bloomsburg Area Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 23, where they will compete against other Elks Lodge winners from the Northeast Central District. First place winners included, from left, Brett Kosciolek (boys 12-13), Russell Blaker (boys 10-11), Aaron Wargula (boys 8-9), Emily Titus (girls 8-9 ), Brenna Karnish (girls 10-11), and Vanessa Solt (girls 12-13).
