Rush Township Supervisor William Sanchez Jr. bade farewell on Tuesday, marking the end of his six-year term in office.

Robert Leibensperger Jr., who was unopposed, will replace Sanchez on the board come January.

"It's been a pleasure to serve Rush Township. Like they always say, when one door closes, another opens. I can definitely say that for the past six years, many doors closed, and many doors opened.

"It's been one hell of a ride," he said. "We don't always agree with each other, but we try to get" things done.

Sanchez said being a supervisor is not always easy, and officials often bear the brunt of harsh criticism.

"A lot of times, we have to make a decision that is unpopular with the public," he said. "There was only one perfect person, and they hung Him on a cross."

But he encouraged residents to continue to attend meetings and voice their opinions.

"As long as people keep caring, I do think this township has a future," he said.
