2 Carbon residents sentenced for DUI

Two Carbon County residents were sentenced on driving under the influence (DUI) charges Tuesday in Carbon County court after previously pleading guilty to the charges.

Linda L. Kane, 55, of Summit Hill, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve a total of 90 days to one day less two years in prison on a DUI count and a charge of driving while under suspension-DUI related.

Kane was arrested on Nov. 10, 2008, along Blakeslee Boulevard East in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .20BAC. It was her third offense for DUI.

Kane told the court she had been drinking that day due to stress from a health problem and the health problems of her husband.

On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced her to serve 30 days to one day less two years, a fine of $1,000, and one year license suspension. On the driving under suspension count, he sentenced her to serve 90 days in jail, concurrent with the DUI count, another $1,000 fine and another one year suspension. She must also get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.

She began the jail term on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Michael Joseph Harman, 23, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in jail by Judge David W. Addy. Harman was arrested on Feb. 7 along SR248 in Bowmanstown after crashing his car into guide rails.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of $750, one year license suspension, get a D&A evaluation, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.

He will serve two days in jail and 28 days in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with electronic monitoring. He begins the jail term on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m. and when released from jail begin the IPP.
