GFWC-PA Woman's Club of Slatington
The GFWC-PA Woman's Club of Slatington will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church on Second St., Slatington. The evening's program will feature Dan Stevens, president of the area's Future Focus. All interested area residents are welcome to attend. Club members are asked to bring their donations of any of the following items to be sent to area servicemen in Iraq: cash donation to purchase phone cards; Febreeze spray; or plastic travel soap dishes.
Walnutport Canal Festival
Walnutport Canal Festival will be held along the canal noon to 6 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 18. There is no admission fee, free parking, and free parking. Entertainment includes on the Canal Street Stage: noon-1:30 p.m. Tom Ruch (minstrel), 2-3:30 p.m. Forgotten Mountain Boys, 4-5:30 p.m. Jay Smar; 429 S. Canal Street from noon-6 p.m. A Mighty Fine Lines String Band; strolling the grounds will be noon-6 p.m. The Breaker Boys, 2-4 p.m. Ken Purcell & Sons, and 2-5 p.m. Tom Ruch; and in the Children's Creativity Corral from 1-4 p.m. Jolly Holly the Clown.
Free attractions include Lehigh Valley Zoo Birds of Prey, Lenni Lenape Culture, Gov. Wolf Historical Society, New Tripoli Historical Society, Carbon County Friends of Animals and Equestrian Demonstrations.
Community center
The Northern Lehigh Community Center will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Vigilant Fire Co., Walnut Street, Slatington. The public is encouraged to attend.
