Tamaqua driver cited for hit/run

A Tamaqua man faces a charge of hit and run of an attended vehicle following an accident in Tamaqua on Tuesday.

Bobbie Jo Simmons, 28, of Nesquehoning, was operating a 1999 Pontiac south on SR309 (Railroad Street) at 1:20 p.m. and stopped for a red light at the Five Points. When the light turned green Simmons' car was struck from behind by a teal colored vehicle driven by an older male. Simmons, who is nine months pregnant, provided officers with a license plate number. Police said the striking vehicle is registered to Lee Wenzel, of 222 E. Broad St.

Wenzel will receive a citation by mail.
