Tamaqua stays unbeaten in girls soccer
The Tamaqua girls soccer team picked up its 13th win without a loss and 10th Schuylkill League triumph in local sports action on Tuesday.
In other action, Northwestern picked up a field hockey win, Pleasant Valley's cross country team had a successful day. Marian, Weatherly and Pleasant Valley also notched girls volleyball wins.
GIRLS SOCCER
Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua
The Lady Raiders recorded their fourth straight shutout with a 6-0 win over the Hurricanes to remain unbeaten on the season in a Schuylkill League contest.
Brittany Hill scored two goals to go with Lauren Mateyak's two goals and three assists to give Tamaqua (13-0,10-0) plenty of offensive firepower after leading 1-0 at halftime. Kayla Hope and Cady O'Malley added goals for the strong finish.
Chey Bates had two saves in goals as the Raiders limited an opponent to only a few shots on goal.
Tamaqua made it a sweep in JV by a 1-0 score on goal from Alex Wagner to also remain unbeaten at 9-0.
FIELD HOCKEY
Northern Lehigh-Bangor
The Slaters broke a scoreless tie with three second half goals for a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs in a Colonial League match.
Abigail Bakke scored a pair of goals and Kate Jones added the other for the Slaters (9-4).
Jones assisted on both of Bakke's goals and Autmn Paraschos had the other assists.
Nicole Pitosky had 14 saves in goal for the Bulldogs (5-6-3), while Rachel Hosterman had six saves for Bangor.
The Slaters outshot the Bulldogs 18-6.
Pen Argyl-Northwestern
The Tigers (8-4-1) had an easy time of it handing the Green Knights a 5-1 setback in Colonial League action.
Tiffany Gumina scored a goal in each half, while Caileigh Landrigan, Kina Wehr and Lauren Horner scored the other Tiger goals. Wehr also had three assists and Horner had one.
Kierste Young had the goal for Pen Argyl (5-8).
Sam Rex had eight saves for the Tigers, while Amanda Knitter had eight saves. Northwestern had a 13-9 edge in shots on goal.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
The Roughies took a two-goal lead in the first half and then added an insurance goal for a 3-0 shutout win over the visiting Blue Bombers in Colonial League play.
Laura Gerhard and Shawna Beil scored unassisted goals for Catasauqua (4-8-2). Nicole Kern scored the other goal with Nicole Meckes getting an assist.
The Roughies held a 14-11 edge in shots on goal.
Lydia Anthony had 11 saves for Palmerton (2-13). Andrea Eck had 11 saves for the Roughies.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lehighton-Pleasant Valley-Stroudsburg-Pocono Mt. West-Pocono Mt. East
Both Lehighton and Pleasant Valley took part in a five team Mountain Valley Conference track meet on Tuesday.
The Lady Bears posted two victories on the day, beating both PM West and Lehighton. Sam Klingel led the team in fourth with a time of 21:50. Teammates Kayla Kishbaugh (11th), Althea Ross (14th) and Brittany Dunay (15th) also finished in the top 15.
The Pleasant Valley boys won all three of their matches, as they knocked off PM West, PM East and Lehighton. The Bears were paced by Curran Kneebone in sixth with a time of 18:57. Teammate Dan Rose came in seven seconds behind him, while Evan Makuvek and Alex Larkin placed 12th and 14th respectively.

Anna Domingo was the only local singles player to post a victory. She won her respective match 6-2, 6-3.
Fellow Olympians Allison Porembo and Gabby Kline teamed up to pick up a doubles win, winning 6-0, 6-1.

VOLLEYBALL
Minersville-Marian
The Fillies swept Minersville on the volleyball courts, winning in three games 25-10, 25-9, 25-8 in Schuylkill League play.
Taylor Mele led the way defensively with 16 digs. She also had 12 service points. Also doing damage from the service line was teammate Devin Porambo. She finished with 16 service points and ten digs.
Teammate Rachel Krajcirik helped out with 21 assists, while Nikki Collevecchio chipped in with eight assists and five digs.
Marian's JV also won in a sweep, 25-6, 25-6.
Weatherly-Williams Vy.
Weatherly swept Williams Valley in a Schuylkill League match, 25-18, 25-16, 25-9.
The Wreckers (5-8, 3-6) were led at the net by Brittany Hinkle with kills. Sarah Dolinsky and Alicia Panzarella added six kills apiece. All three players also had double figures in digs with Panzarella getting 16, Hinkle 15, and Dolinsky 13.
Also playing well for Weatherly were Rachel Heister (13 assists, eight digs); Sam Strizak (12 assists, six digs); Alyssa Kephart (four kills, six digs).
In the JV match, Williams Valley puled out a 22-25, 25-21, 15-9 victory.
Jim Thorpe-Halifax
The Olympians suffered a tough loss to Halifax by scores of 18-25, 17-25, 19-25 in Schuylkill League play.
Jill Andres had 17 digs, Marissa Cantelmi had 14 assists and five aces, while Brittany Holland and Victoria Nichols had five kills for the Olympians.
Halifax also won the JV game 18-25, 17-25.
Pottsville-Panther Valley
The Panthers started off on the right foot, but wound up losing to the Crimson Tide 25-16, 20-25, 9-25, 17-25 in a Schuylkill League match.
Christa Mantz had eight kills, 15 service points and 11 aces for the Panthers (7-3), while Tricia Janowiak added five kills and five service points.
Carly Markovich had three kills, 12 assists and three service points and Katie Zulic had two kills, four service points and two aces.
Panther Valley salvaged a split with a win in the JV game game by scores of 25-17, 25-22.
East Stroudsburg South-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley defeated East Stroudsburg South 25-12, 25-12, 25-23 in Mountain Valley Conference volleyball play.
Kayla Dorney lead the Lady Bears' attack with 11 kills, four blocks and two aces. Teammate Priya Patel had ten assists and four aces, while Justine Maresca went 14-for-14 from the service line and added eight digs.
The Bears are now 15-8 overall and 6-2 in MVC.
Blue Mt.-Tamaqua
After dropping the first two games to Schuylkill League foe Tamaqua, Blue Mountain bounced back to take the next three games and won 15-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-8.
Stacy Wallace led the lRaiders (6-5) with nine service points, nine blocks and seven kills. Teammate Sarah Paluck added nine kills, six digs and four service points.
Kelsey Burkett did her best as she racked up 16 service points and five aces.
