Alcohol-related crash on I81
State police at Frackville reported investigating a two-vehicle alcohol related crash along Interstate 81 in Delano Township, Schuylkill County. Troopers said the crash occurred about 5:24 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
According to troopers Manuel Holguin-Ledesma, 53, of Hazleton, was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant southbound when another vehicle approached his from behind at a high rate of speed. The second vehicle, a 2007 Kia Sportster, struck the rear of the Galant causing it to spin into the median. The Kia came to rest just off the road.
Troopers said the other driver was identified as Deanna Christman, 20, of Allentown. She was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). Holguin-Ledesma was not injured. Damages were termed heavy to the back of the Galant and to the front of the Kia.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Delano Fire Company and Ryan Township EMS unit.
Troopers also investigated a one vehicle crash about 8:20 a.m. on Saturday along SR61, three-tenths of a mile south of Mall Road, in Blythe Township. Troopers said Jonathan Huynh, of Reading, was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup northbound at a speed greater than allowed when he lost control. The truck struck two large rocks along the east side causing damage to the wheel assembly.
Troopers said Huynh was not injured. Troopers also said he was cited.
