TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

Linda Hosler was presented the TOPS Loser of the Week Award at the Nov. 11 meeting. Frances Houser provided words of inspiration entitled "Seven Days of Inspiration." The business session was conducted by Dottie Watkins, who also provided a program on ways to eat healthy on a budget. Members were challenged to take steps to accomplish their goals, including keeping in touch with their partners.

TOPS is a nonprofit weight loss support group for men and women of all ages. For more information, stop by a meeting or call Nancy Barron at (570) 668-4651 or Bernie Kunkel at (570) 645-7702. Information is also available on the Web at TOPS.org.

Anyone interested in learning more may attend the meeting without obligation.

Swim team

The Tamaqua Blue Waves Swim Team will conduct a registration session this Thursday, from 6-7 p.m., at the Tamaqua Senior High Pool. The team is open to children who are 5 years old through eighth grade. The only requirement is the ability to swim 25 yards of freestyle without stopping.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.

All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.

Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.

Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.

Tamaqua Class of 1979

The Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1979 30th Reunion, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge, has been canceled due to lack of reservations.

Anyone who made reservations will have their checks refunded shortly.
