Several thefts probed at Walmart

Several incidents, including retail thefts at Walmart, are being investigated by Mahoning Township Police.

On Nov. 17 at about 2 p.m., Cheryl A. Stuckley, 47, of Carbon St., Lehighton, was cited for retail theft. At approximately 10:20 a.m. she was in the store and allegedly removed a UPC code from the back of a frying pan and then placed that UPC code sticker over the UPC sticker of a GE skillet.

The value of the frying pan is $12.97. The value of the skillet is $41.34. She returned to the store at approximately 2 p.m. and allegedly attempted to return a grease covered skillet inside the box of the new skillet she purchased earlier in the day.

The broken skillet was the wrong brand and did not match the box. Store security called police and she was cited.

On Nov. 16 at about 2:45 p.m. police were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a retail theft. A male had been observed by store security removing the tags from five wallets. The individual attempted to conceal the wallets on his person and attempted to leave the store without paying, the value of the wallets being $56.26.

Charged with retail theft was Travis Schrantz, 40, of Church Street, Lehighton.

On Nov. 16 at about 4 p.m. police were dispatched to the store for a reported theft. Store security had observed a female take two cell phone covers, remove them from the packaging, conceal them on her person and attempt to leave the store without paying. The value of the items being $35.96.

Cindy Lynn Berger, 18, of the 4300 block of Little Gap Road, Aquashicola, was taken into custody and charged with retail theft.

On on Nov. 16, at about 11:50 p.m. police were summoned to the store for a report of an employee chasing a male on foot who had just stolen an XBOX valued at $399.

Township police were assisted at the scene by Lehighton police.

Police conducted a follow up investigation and at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 17, Anthony Thorpe, 22, of Stock St. Nesquehoning, was arrested and has been charged with retail theft.

On Nov. 17, at about 6:31 p.m. police were dispatched to the store for a report of a theft. Security observed a male conceal Ice Drops breath mints on his person and attempt to leave the store without paying. The value of the item being $5.23.

A 17 year old male from Upper Nis Hollow Road, Mahoning Township, was taken into custody, cited for retail theft and released to a parent.
