Long probation

Allan W. Petrey, 20, of 28 Grier Avenue, Barnesville, who pleaded guilty last Aug. 28 to criminal charges was placed by Judge John E Domalakes in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) for 23 months with the first three months served on house arrest with electronic monitoring followed by 20 months on probation on the charge involuntary manslaughter.

On two summary charges, careless driving and failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic, he was ordered to pay the costs of prosecution. He was cited by Patrolman Duane Frederick, Rush Township police, who reported Petrey was involved in a two car accident on Aug. 15, 2007, on Lafayette Avenue near a nursing home resulting in a fatality.

Crime spree

Thomas Dale Carl, 20, of Hegins, pleaded guilty to 37 criminal charges which occurred in a short period of time as he tried to raise money to pay his drug debts.

He was sentenced by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin to serve two to four years in a state correctional institution and when released to serve three years on probation. Some of the victims were not happy but Dolbin said because of Carl's age he needs rehabilitation more than he needs punishment. He told Carl he was a one man crime wave and if he gets into further trouble when he get out of jail he will be put away for a long time."

Carl entered guilty pleas to nine counts of theft, eight counts of receiving stolen property, seven counts of burglary, six counts of criminal conspiracy, two cunts of corruption of minors and one count each of theft, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal mischief.

Armed robbery

Bryan Anthony Uroskie, 25, Ashland, who pleaded guilty last Aug. 27 to armed robbery at the Turkey HIll MIni Mart in Ashland was sentenced by Judge John E. Domalakes to serve two and one-half to seven years in a state correctional institution with credit for having served 26 days in the county prison and 22 days at rehab center. He must make restitution of $179 t the store. He was cited by Patrolman Mark O'Hearn, Ashland police, whose report stated Uroskie brandished a knife at a clerk in obtaining $179 in cash.

Robbery by force

Michael Thomas Kane, 23. Pottsville, on a charge of robbery by force, however slight, was sentenced by Judge Jacqueline Russell to serve four to eight years in a state correctional institution followed by two years probation during which time he must provide 20 hours of community service. He also must make restitution of $45 to Angus Angst, Pottsville, and $132.82 to the Department of Public Welfare. He has 56 days credit for serving in the county prison. In her sentence Russell made a request to the Department of Corrections to consider placing Kane at an institution in or close to Schuylkill County so that he may be close to his family as he has some disabilities.

Reduce charge

Andrew Keith Klinger, 22, Ashland, pleaded guilty after the court amended the criminal information to reduce the charge of harassment to a summary offense. President Judge Willliam E. Baldwin fined him $300 and costs.

Revoke probation

Zachary Allen Kadingo, 21, Pottsville, was given a chance by District Attorney James P. Goodman to work off his criminal charges to clear his name by placing him in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) program but he violated terms fixed by Baldwin and was removed from the program. He now faces trial on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Revoke parole

Cory Michael Simpson, 20, Pottsville, had his parole revoked by Baldwin and he was recommitted to the county prison to serve out his sentence. His 487 days of liberty were disallowed. He had entered a guilty plea to delivery of a controlled substance.
