Schuylkill driver facing DUI charge
A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, along Courtneys Road, in Cass Township. It was one of two crashes reported on by state police at Frackville.
Troopers said Shannon F. Reed, 27, of Pottsville, was driving a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlas Sierra westbound when the vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole along the north berm. After impact with the pole the car slid across the road and struck several small trees along the south berm. This caused the Oldsmobile to roll over and come to final rest on its roof on the south berm of the road.
Reed was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville. Troopers said she was found to be under the influence and blood was drawn at the hospital for a blood/alcohol content test.
The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.
Troopers investigated a crash about 7:40 a.m. on Saturday along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Angela Bernas, 39, of Coal Township, was northbound when she lost control of her 2004 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle began to spin in a counter-clockwise direction and went onto the berm then entered the median. The vehicle then struck a ditch, re-entered the southbound lanes and traveled backward. The vehicle came to rest about 100 yards after entering the southbound lane.
Mahanoy City emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. Damages were moderate to the front of the vehicle.
