Lehighton man hurt in accident

James M. Rodgers, 28, of Lehighton, was injured in an accident Wednesday at 5:44 a.m. on Beltzville Drive in Polk Township, Monroe County.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was driving a 1996 Dogge Dakota eastbound when he swerved to avoid striking a deer in the roadway. The vehicle sideswiped a utility pole and struck a parked 1986 Volkswagon Jetta, pushing it into a 1989 Dogde 3600. The owners of the parked vehicles were not identified by police.

Police said the severity of Rodgers' injuries were not immediately known.
