Thomas Wildoner, Jim Thorpe mayor, reported to members of the borough council that he has received a letter from Oklahoma, asking, "When is the body of Jim Thorpe going to be returned?" The letter was signed by "The Estate of Jim Thorpe." Irwin Owen, a 78-year-old lawyer for the Thorpe estate, is quoted as stating, "We're not interested in trying to change the name of the town. All we're interested in is getting the body back."
