NL girls cop tourney title
Northern Lehigh's boys and girls both posted tournament victories to highlight area basketball action on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs win gave them a tourney championship.
Other local winners were the Marian boys and Palmerton girls.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marian-Panther Vy.
Marian jumped out to a double digit halftime lead and cruised to a 53-42 victory over host Panther Valley in the consolation game of the Panther Valley Tip-Off Tournament.
Chris Barletta led the Colts (1-1) with 16 points. Matt Yaich and Drew Sherkness added 14 and 10 points respectively.
For Panther Valley (0-2), Joe Revell and Brock Mitchell scored 10 points apiece.

Trailing by a point going into the final frame, Wyoming Valley West rallied to pull out a 60-51 win over Pleasant Valley.
For the Bears, Nick Stanovick had a team-high 13 points. Pat Kregeloh, Richie Irving and Eric Wild all added 11 points.
WVW pulled out a 54-49 JV win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

For the second straight year, Northern Lehigh opened its season by capturing the Fleetwood Tip-Off Tournament championship. The Bulldogs routed Tulpehocken, 51-18, in the championship game.
The Bulldogs' Sonya Josephson scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the first half while Aimee Oertner hit double figures with a 16-point performance.
Aimee Oertner was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Josephson and Lauren Oertner were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Host Lourdes Regional defeated Marian, 56-49, in the championship game of its tournament.
Lourdes' Jen Kalinowski went a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe and finished with 15 points to lead the Red Raiders.
Kaysi McLaughlin led a trio of Fillies who hit double figures with a game-high 17 points, draining three three-pointers. Danielle Tristani and Gillian Ferko followed with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Palmerton made it back-to-back nights with victories as it knocked off visiting Jim Thorpe, 57-44, in a non-league game.
Kelsey Hay recorded a double-double with 23 points and 19 rebounds for the Bombers (2-0). Casey Rinfret was right behind her with an 18-point performance.
Celeste Robinson led the Olympians (0-1) with 13 points.
In the JV game, Palmerton snuck away with a 29-21 victory. Em Meinhart led the Bombers with 10 points. Jeanna McElmoyle had eight points for Thorpe.

Kasey Meckes was the go-to girl for the Bears as she finished with a team-high 14 points.
In the JV game, Pleasant Valley came out on top with a 54-33 victory.
