Shelters do the best they can
Dear Editor:
In response to the letter from Laurie Gechter, "Five kittens abandoned" published Nov. 14, let me just say first off, what a great job she did in that situation. If only all people would be so caring.
I am sure that she called Carbon County Friends of Animals, but due to an outbreak of upper respiratory and not being able to bring in any new cats, we were not able to help.
Laurie went over and above the call to see that the remaining kittens were cared for.
People must understand that shelters, as a rule, do the best they can, in any given situation. Laurie was the exception to the rule.
Most people would say, you have to take these kittens, or, if you don't take these kittens, I'll leave them outside, throw them out of the car, or even sometimes worse.
Laurie is right though if people would be more responsible, having animals spayed or neutered, there would be no need for any of these organizations.
Our shelter, like many others, rely solely on donations, be it monetary or supplies, and fundraisers. So please, help us keep taking care of stray and homeless animals. We are their only hope. And don't forget to spay and neuter!
