Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating two crashes on Saturday, Nov. 28, on Schuylkill County roadways.
A crash occurred about 7:04 p.m. along Red Dale Road in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Michael D. Nye, 45, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2004 Ford Escape eastbound and negotiating a left downhill curve when a deer entered the road in front of him. Nye swerved to the right to avoid the animal and the right side wheels on his vehicle went onto the grassy berm. He then swerved left to re-enter the road and crossed the eastbound lane and went off onto the berm and into brush. The Escape struck and downed a road sign, then sideswiped a large tree with its right side. It then struck another tree with its front bumper and came to rest.
Nye and a 10-year-old male with him were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
The second crash occurred about 10:57 p.m. along SR183 (Chestnut St.), in Cressona. Troopers said Cody L. Adams, 20, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy northbound while James K. Sloss, 56, of Wernersville, Berks County, was southbound in a 1992 Ford Econoline van. Sloss was negotiating a left curve while Adams was negotiating a right curve. The Legacy drifted into the southbound lane and collided into the front of the van.
After impact the Legacy spun counter-clockwise and traveled across the southbound lane and onto the west berm. After traveling about 93-feet the Legacy came to rest in a field. The van continued south after impact for about 360 feet before coming to rest in the southbound lane.
Adams and his passenger, Shane Adams, 22, of Pottsville, and Sloss and his passenger, Wilma Sloss, 64, same address, were all not injured. The two vehicles were towed from the scene.
Troopers cited Adams for traveling on roadways lane for traffic.
