Harhart announces availability of new militiary license plates

Published November 30. 2009 05:00PM

Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today announced that a new series of military license plates are being made available by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

"These license plates are a great way to honor those motorists who have bravely served our country through military service," said Harhart. "Pennsylvania is home to a large population of veterans and this new series of license plates is a small, but fitting, way to recognize these outstanding members of the community."

According to PennDOT, the new license plates contain the standard Pennsylvania license plate colors of blue, white and yellow along with the applicable branch of service emblem or logo on the left-hand side of the plate. Pennsylvania is printed at the top of the plate, while the name of the applicable branch of service is printed at the bottom.

To obtain one of these plates, honorably discharged veterans of the armed forces must complete and mail Form MV-150, Application for U.S. Military Veteran Registration Plate, to PennDOT and include a certified copy of their DD-214, along with a fee of $20.

Form MV-150 is available at Harhart's district offices located at 2030 Center Street, Northampton, telephone (610) 502-2701 and Slatington Borough Hall, 125 S. Walnut Street, First Floor, Slatington, telephone (610) 760-9805. Motorists can also go to PennDOT's Driver and Vehicle Services Web site, www.dmv.state.pa.us
