Sorority news

Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Dec. 2 at Smulligan's Tavern. Lori Schmerfeld served as hostess.

The Butter Bread Pastry project, conducted by the ways and means committee, was declared a success. Proceeds will be used for the chapter's service projects, such as the Community Easter Egg Hunt.

The Secret Sister dinner party and gift exchange will be held at the home of Donna Sterling, Lake Hauto. Sterling will prepare a three-course Victorian dinner, using recipes from the 1800s.

Christmas story-time

The Tamaqua Public Library is offering Children's Christmas Story-time sessions next week. Children between the ages of 2 and 5 are welcome to attend either session, Dec. 15 or Dec. 16. Both sessions will be from 10-11 a.m.

In addition to hearing/reading Christmas stories, participants will join in Christmas songs, construct a craft item and enjoy goodies. There will also be a special guest.

The library will be closed on the following dates due to the upcoming holidays: Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1. Abbreviated hours will be held Christmas and New Year's Eves 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
