Driver is charged after accident

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said a driver who failed to avoid striking a stopped vehicle in front of his car will be cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after an accident on Dec. 14 at 4:10 p.m. on Rt. 534 in Penn Forest Township.

No names were provided in the police report, but police said the driver to be cited was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina east on Rt. 534 and failed to bring it to a stop as a 2002 GMC Savana, also traveling east, was stopped while attempting to make a right-hand turn onto Stone Ridge Road.

Police said the Lumina swerved to the right but its left front end struck the right rear of the Savana.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
