Jim Thorpe boys, Weatherly girls win

The Jim Thorpe b oys and Weatherly girls picked up wins on the hardwood on Wednesday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Schuylkill Haven-Jim Thorpe

Rashid Epps scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the fourh quarter and led his Olympians to a 62-55 victory over Schuylkill League foe Schuylkill Haven.

Sam Lux chipped in 15 for the locals and connected on two three-pointers. Corey Cinciola added eight.

Jim Thorpe improves to 3-0 on the year.

The Olympians also won the JV contest by a score of 51-27.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Weatherly was powered by Alexa Figas and her eight points in overtime, as the Lady Wreckers topped the Lady Panthers 53-49.

Figas finished with a game-high 19 points, with 12 of those points coming in the second half. Teammates Nicole Calia and Sara Snyder added 13 and 12 points respectively in the winning effort.

The Panthers were led by Oliva Markovich's 11 points. She was the only Panther Valley player to score in double digits.

Reading CC-Marian

Marian squeezed out a tough one over non-league opponent Reading CC, as the Fillies won 36-32.

Danielle Tristani paced Marian with 15 points. Fellow Fillie Angela Bellezza added eight on two three-pointers.

Reading CC's Maria Possignoli led all scorers with 17 points.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Josh Reiner dropped 20 points for the Wreckers, however it wasn't enough as Weatherly fell to Mahanoy Area by two, 48-46.
