Lady Raiders win SL tournament

The Tamaqua girls stayed unbeaten by winning the Southern Lehigh Holiday Tournament on Wednesday night.

In other action, the Panther Valley girls picked up a win, while the Tamaqua boys fell to Hamburg.

Tamaqua defeated host Southern Lehigh in its own tournament, as the Lady Raiders won the championship by a score of 46-35.

Amy Zehner led the locals with 19 points. Fellow Raiders Elissa Streisel and Cassie Eroh added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Tamaqua (6-0) outscored Southern Lehigh 30-13 in the second and third quarters combined.

Zehner was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while teammate Ali Updike and Elissa Streisel were named to the All-Tournament team.

In the JV tournament, Tamaqua captured the crown with a 29-24 victory over Stroudsburg. The Blue Raiders' Christine Streisel finished with 14 points.

Panther Vy.-MMI Prep

Panther Valley held MMI Prep to just two field goals on the night and won easily, 40-13.

The Lady Panthers were led by Sam Zlock and her 12 points. Teammate Abbey Markovich added eight, while Olivia Markovich added seven.

Reed Kooper scored 22 points and was deadly from behind the arc hitting five three pointers in a 48-39 Hamburg win over the Blue Raiders (2-4) in a non-league contest.

Michael Taylor led Tamaqua in scoring with 16 points.

Berwick Duals

The Tamaqua wrestling team faced off against five teams at Berwick on Wednesday, however the Blue Raiders would win only one match on the day.

Tamaqua's lone victory came over Blue Ridge, 36-33. The Raiders lost to Troy (42-33), Southern Columbia (46-32), Mifflinburg (54-24) and Abington Heights (48-33).

Garth Lakitsky had the best day for Tamaqua, as he finished a perfect 5-0. Teammates Travis Veronsky and Dustin Wentz also did well, as each went 4-1 respectively.

Also finishing with .500-or-better records were Kolby Mashack (3-0), Roger Taras (3-2), Kyle Boyer (3-2) and Erik Krause (2-2).

BASKETBALL

9TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Blue Mt.

Blue Mountain defeated Tamaqua, 57-33. Dalton Nunemacher had a team high 10 points for the Blue Raiders.
