Project to move Carbon County archives is nearing completion
The Carbon County new archives project is nearing completion.
On Thursday, the county commissioners approved a proposal from Glose Moving and Storage Inc., doing business as O’Brien’s Moving and Storage of Allentown for moving the contents of the archives department from its present location on Susquehanna Street to the newly renovated office building at 15 W. Fourth St., Jim Thorpe.
The cost for the move is estimated to be $12,120 and is tentatively scheduled to occur between Oct. 23 and 26.
Carbon County purchased the building on the east side of Jim Thorpe for $95,000 in September 2015 with the intentions of moving the archives out of its current building, which shares its space with the maintenance department, to make room for a capital project the county will be embarking on in the hopes of creating additional office space and parking for some of its departments in the courthouse that have outgrown their allotted space due to additional cases.
Since then, the county has renovated the building to meet its needs and is expected to have the building completed by Oct. 21.
