Man dies as a result of West Penn motorcycle crash

A Wilkes-Barre man has died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash on Sept. 29 in West Penn Township.

According to the Lehigh Coroner’s Office, Wayne J. Pearce, 56, of Wilkes-Barre died at 11:07 p.m. Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The crash occurred at 4:55 p.m in the 1800 block of West Penn Pike.

Pearce was traveling north on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. A man from Reading attempted to pull out from a private lot to go south on Route 309 and pulled out into the path of the motorcycle.

The bike struck the car broadside, going airborne over the car.

Pearce was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center.

West Penn police are investigating the incident.

Route 309 was shut down for over an hour with West Penn fire police shutting down the roadway and maintaining traffic control at the scene.
