Second annual Rocktoberfest this weekend in Lehighton
It combines the excitement of fall-themed activities with the sound of acoustic music.
In the end, funds raised during the second annual Rocktoberfest in Lehighton this weekend will benefit breast cancer awareness.
Sponsored by the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, the event will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Bambi Elsasser, treasurer, said Rocktoberfest will be a yearly event the Saturday and Sunday after Columbus Day.
“We are trying to raise funds for breast cancer awareness; all of the funds will be staying in Pennsylvania, and will be donated to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition,” Elsasser said. “We really want to do something fun for our community and get the community out.”
Elsasser said there will be bands and acoustic music playing the entire weekend throughout both of the parks.
On Saturday, Damian Walck will perform from noon to 2 p.m.; The Left Edge, 2:30-4:30 p.m., PsydFX, 5-7 p.m., and Blunt, 7:30-10 p.m. in the upper park; with JoNean, 1-3 p.m., RJ, 3-5 p.m., Mylee Hauser, 5-7 p.m., and Dave Shiffert, 7-9 p.m. in the lower park.
Sunday’s entertainment will include Rude Groove from noon to 1:30 p.m., Bedlam Blues, 2-3:30 p.m., Jean & The American Dream, 4-6 p.m. in the upper park, with Damian, noon-2 p.m., and Eric Stimmler, 2-5 p.m. in the lower park.
There will also be a car show both days, and the group is still looking for cars to enter, Elsasser said. The cost to participate in the car show is $10 per day, or $15 for both days, she said.
Other activities will consist of a beer and wine garden, a Chinese auction, with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit breast cancer awareness; face-painting, a cut-a-thon, pumpkin painting, three bounce houses, with all-day wristbands, pony rides, crafters and food vendors, she said.
As of now, Elsasser said there are 90 vendors, with room for more. She said anyone interested in becoming a vendor should comment with what they sell and include their email address.
The Lehighton Downtown Initiative will have an information booth across from the borough municipal building, she said.
Elsasser said last year’s event raised nearly $2,000 for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.
