Schuylkill County is continuing its fight against blight.

Commissioners on Wednesday awarded contracts for two more demolition objects, both in Gilberton.

They were $14,895 to AMC Enterprise, Frackville, to tear down a dilapidated building at 109-111 Kelly St., and $12,489 to the same company to demolish a building at 1121-1123 Main St.

In related moves, commissioners agreed to extend the contract time for demolition projects located at 142 E. Grand Avenue, Tower City, and at 1 W. Ogden St. and 25 S. John St., Girardville to Nov. 30.

Affordable Construction & Demolition will be doing the work.

Commissioners also approved 17 private sale bids, including two slated for demolition in Porter and Reilly townships.

In January the county received a $1.4 million demolition grant through the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved submission of an application to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for a $1 million Emergency Solutions Grant.

The county is applying for the grant on behalf of Schuylkill Women In Crisis, Servants to All, and Schuylkill Community Action.

Also, commissioners approved a $4,200, one-year agreement with Greens Communications, Pottsville, for maintenance of the 911 center’s net clock time synchronization.

They also approved a three-year contract with Hess Embroidery & Uniforms, West Reading, for uniform materials as awarded by bid.

The first year’s cost $38,759.59; the second year is $39,913.67; and the third year, $39,949.07.

Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. next Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the commissioners’ boardroom at the county courthouse, Pottsville.
