Tamaqua news for Oct. 25

Sorority meeting

Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Sorority will meet today at the home of Helen Walters.

Members prepared trick or treat bags for Meals on Wheels recipients at the last meeting. The bags will be distributed on Oct. 30. The chapter will be a Christmas sponsor for 10 boys at Bethany Children’s Home.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Oct. 19 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 47 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “This The Season.”

Ted Krell was added to the sick list and James Sands was welcomed as a new member.

Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman will speak to the group at the Oct. 26 meeting. Her topic will be fraud and scams targeting the elderly.

The annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 14.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Apostle’s Creed growth group meets at 1 p.m., Celebrate Recovery is at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, sisters growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, prayer gathering at 9 a.m., Celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m., TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, worship team meets at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Philip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a singalong time of praise will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The next family night will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 and will include pumpkin carving. Pumpkins will be provided. Bring a snack to share.

Rally Day will be held on Nov. 5.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Rally Day Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Special music will be provided by Mike and Joanne Forbes. The service will be followed by a coffee and dessert fellowship.

Also, Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

The guild will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 2. Pretzel orders are due Nov. 5.
