Lacrosse tourney
The Pleasant Valley Girls Lacrosse Booster Club is hosting The Pocono Draw Tournament on Saturday at the Pleasant Valley High School stadium and fields. The tourney will have 19 teams with more than 200 players from youth level to high school level.
The Pleasant Valley Lacrosse Booster Club promotes girls lacrosse for players in the Pleasant Valley school district. Funds raised from the tournament fundraiser will be used to help pay for offseason training, as well as with tournament and league entry fees.
Riders meet
The American Legion Riders have its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209 and Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.
The Riders are known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children’s hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships, and enjoy riding.

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school library in Brodheadsville.
Knit & Crochet
The busy bees of the Knit & Crochet Group at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will meet again at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are always welcome.
Touch of Home
Operation Touch of Home will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209, Gilbert.
The upcoming fall drive planned for Nov. 18 and 19 will be discussed.
Special award
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has accorded the Western Pocono Women’s Club the Garden of Distinction Award for 2017 for the club’s beautifying and maintaining the triangle at Route 209 and 115 across from the Chestnuthill Diner.
That honor will be recognized by the society at a reception on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Seniors menu
Monroe County Seniors, Chestnuthill group, meeting in Zion Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall, can order pork and bell peppers for next Wednesday’s lunch. This Friday the centers are closed due to Veterans Day being observed.
Those wanting lunch must call the site manager by 11 a.m. the day before at 570-242-6770.
Dead deer
The Monroe County Waste Authority can be called for dead deer removal at 570-634-6100.
Submarine Vets
The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Pocono Base, meet regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at the Wilson Fisher American Legion, Post 413, Old Route 940, in Pocono Pines. They are a local chapter of the national organization U. S. Submarine Veterans Inc.

Meeting change
The November dinner meeting and board meeting of the Western Pocono Lions Club will be held Nov. 16 at Cherry’s on Route 209 in Kresgeville. The club will meet in the large back room on the side of the building toward Route 534.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the members can begin to arrive at 6:30 p.m. and should order dinner off the menu with the dinner meeting at 7 p.m. A reminder that all members are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to the meeting to be given to the PVEN food pantry, or simply feed the Purple Pig at the dinner meeting. Also, members can bring items for the Leo Club collection for Touch of Home, with those items being sent to members of the armed services.
A report by Lion Fred Klein concerning the annual World Lions Day project, taking clients from area nursing homes to see the fall foliage, includes the following: at Bush’s home, in Kunkletown, the club had five drivers driving 12 women; the drivers were Dave Rowan, Rick Zimmerman, Mike Gagliano, Tom Kresge and Klein. At Getz’s home in Jonas, the club had three drivers who took nine people on a ride; the drivers were Jeff Hinton, Matt Held and Bob Coleman.
At Brookmont in Effort, two drivers took three women for a scenic ride; the drivers were Charlie Rush and Steve Carey. This has been a tradition for more than 40 years.
Holidayfest
The Western Pocono Lioness Club is holding new event, Holidayfest. It is a unique buying experience featuring various vendors, tricky tray, baskets, handmade and handcrafted items as well as professional creations and pocketbooks.
Holidayfest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Chestnuthill Park Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville. For more information, call Lioness Carol at 610-554-8755.
