IMMIGRATION COLUMN NOT BALANCED

I believe the Oct. 24 opinion column on “The eye-popping cost of illegal immigration” by Joe Guzzardi should be balanced with more factual material. The whole column depends on statistics developed by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, classified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group.

Reputable economists generally believe that the U.S. economy actually benefits from immigration; certain industries could hardly do without it.

If Mr. Guzzardi is really concerned about the federal deficit, he ought to look at the proposed “tax reform.”
