Revenue from deeds

Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 264 deeds, 226 mortgages and 365 other writs during the month of October.

As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $34,413.28. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $26,766; data processing fees, $2,092.26; notaries, $60; commission on transfers and writs, $4,077.52; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $1,417.50.

McCall remitted $427.50 in state writ taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, while Carbon County municipalities and school districts shared realty transfer tax disbursements totaling $203,144.35, the same amount that was forwarded to the state in realty transfer taxes.

McCall deposited $2,565 in the Recorder of Deeds Record Improvement Fund and $1,710 in the Carbon County Records Improvement Fund, these being fees assessed by state law on each transaction for records management needs. An additional $27,122 was collected and remitted to the state for its Judicial Computer System program.

Also, $8,032.50 was collected last month for the Affordable Housing Program in Carbon County.

In all, funds collected in the recorder’s office last month amounted to $480,558.98.

Prothonotary’s report

A total of case 284 were started in October in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:

Civil actions, 20; custody complaints, 17; complaints to modify custody, 17; district justice appeals, 8; divorce complaints, 16; complaint in ejectment, 1; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 22; protection from abuse petitions, 29; protection from sexual violent individual petition, 1; tax sales, 5; judgments, 109; miscellaneous case, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 2; and writs of executions, 35. The office also processed 65 passport applications and provided assistance to 36 individuals with passport renewal applications.

Behrens’ financial report for October shows $37,983.17 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $30,517.11; interest income, $1.16; custody/divorce fees, $1,500.; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $100; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $100; data processing fees, $4,334.15, stenographer fees, $1,430.75; and remote access fees, $900.

The prothonotary also remitted $4,018.03 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $64 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,120 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
