Lehighton man jailed for DUI
John A. Collotty, 38, of Lehighton, was sentenced on Monday to serve 30 days to six months in prison on a driving under the influence charge he previously pleaded to.
He was arrested on the DUI count on June 17 by Lehighton police. A test showed 0.14 BAC.
Police stopped Collotty along Ninth Street because his vehicle matched one involved in an incident about two hours earlier to the rear of the Sunoco station along Route 443. In that incident, an intoxicated Collotty got involved in a dispute with others at that location and grabbed a man’s iPhone and smashed it on the ground. He then fled the scene. In that case he pleaded to one count of criminal mischief.
On that charge, President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II placed him on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge.
In the DUI case he was ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 and his license was suspended for a year. On the mischief count, he was ordered to make restitution for the smashed phone of $969. Zero tolerance was also imposed on drug or alcohol use.
Collotty is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a 90-day term for a parole violation. After that term is completed, he will begin serving the new sentence.
He must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
