Carbon County court — DUI
Ten people entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges before Judge Joseph J. Matika in Carbon County court on Nov. 21.
Joseph Brizinski Jr., 38, of Scranton, was arrested on Nov. 24, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Maury Road in Franklin Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred as Brizinski needs a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Jeremy Hollrigl, 32, of White Haven, was arrested on April 24 along Plane Street by Weatherly police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Hollrigl can apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program — house arrest.
Robert B. Mehmeti, 33, no address, who is an inmate in the county prison, was arrested on March 10, 2016, by Lansford police along Patterson Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Joshua John Albani, 38, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on May 17 along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so Albani can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Louis E. Fenton, 32, of Brodheadsville, was arrested on March 25 by Kidder Township police. He also pleaded to two motor vehicle code violations. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.
On the DUI count Matika sentenced him to serve 10 days to 24 months in prison, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 75 hours of community service. On the two summaries he was fined a total of $75 and costs.
He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.
Joshua J. Murphy, 33, of Hampton, Virginia, was arrested on Sept. 10, 2016, along South Lake Drive in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge after being involved in a crash. He refused a test.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Kody James Strouse, 28, of Lewisberry, York County, formerly of Lansford, was arrested on April 20, 2016, along Market Street by Nesquehoning police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for placement in the IPP.
Stephanie Ann Barron, 36, of Nesquehoning, was arrested on July 2, 2014, along Route 54 by Nesquehoning police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
She was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.
Sentencing was deferred so she can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.
Tyler Matthews Mojica-Ramirez, 21, of Hazleton, was arrested on June 3, 2015, by state police at Hazleton. A rest revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.
Matika sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. He was given credit for six days spent in jail on the charge and paroled.
James Muffley Jr., 34, of Weatherly, was arrested on March 1 by Weatherly police along Plane Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Each defendant that was sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
