Students to hold annual holiday program for senior citizens
Students and faculty at Slatington Elementary School will hold their annual Senior Citizen’s Holiday Program and Holiday Dinner at 10 a.m. Dec. 12.
Those who attend the 37th annual event will enjoy a morning filled with music, poems, and jokes from students, along with a turkey dinner for lunch.
The Senior Citizen Holiday Program is hosted by Slatington Elementary administration, staff, parents, and students.
It has grown from its modest beginnings of five senior citizens the first year, according to technology instructor Tim Weaber, an event coordinator.
Weaber said that over 150 elderly residents will be entertained by the program and meal that follows.
He noted that many of the senior citizens, who reside in nursing homes and assisted living in the Northern Lehigh area, are transported by school buses to the school.
Weaber said the seniors who attend will receive a full turkey dinner with all the fixings, dessert and coffee, a child-made ornament and place mat.
They will also be treated to holiday songs, poems, jokes, crafts, and homemade cookies made by the students’ parents, among other holiday amenities.
“It is our hope that throughout the program and meal, we were able to bring joy to the lives of our respected and valued community seniors,” Weaber said.
