A look back: December 4, 1965

Two pupils from St. Mary of the Assumption Parochial School, Coaldale, walked off with top honors in the annual CYO speech tournament held Saturday at Marian High School.

Awarded first place honors were Ann Schaefer, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schaefer, 24 W. Phillips St., Coaldale, and Thomas Macenka, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Macenka, 18 W. Phillips St., Coaldale.

Over 100 elementary pupils from 16 area parochial schools took part in the daylong declamation program. Sister Maria Amoria of the Marian faculty was the coordinator of the competition. Judges for the final round were attorneys William Quinn, Thomas Durnin, W. Joseph Engler, Joseph Greco and John Linderman.
