Woman struck by vehicle in Palmerton identified

Palmerton Police Department has released the identity of a woman who was injured after being struck by a vehicle as she attempted to cross a street in the borough Friday afternoon.

Detective Kevin Buck of the Palmerton Police Department said the incident occurred at 12:56 p.m. as a vehicle was turning left into the Family Dollar parking lot when another vehicle went around it on the right hand side and struck Soka Opacic, 67, of Avenue B, who was walking out from behind a parked vehicle.

Opacic had to be flown to a trauma center for her injuries.
