Four TN volleyball players named all-state

Four Times News area volleyball players were recently named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association all-state team.

Marian Catholic had a strong season, topping Nativity in the District 11 title game and made its third state championship appearance in four seasons, picking up three silver medals along the way.

A trio of seniors were a huge part of the program’s consistent success — and each capped off stellar careers with strong fourth-year campaigns.

Two-time Times News Player of the Year and Schuylkill League Player of the Year Jasmine Mooney earned a spot on the Class 1A team, thanks to her impressive offense and ability to carry the team time after time.

She finished the season with 496 kills and 128 aces.

She’s joined on the team by a teammate who often fed her the ball, setter Gianna Agosti, who tallied 819 assists in 2017. Librero Toni Galasso also wrapped up a fine career with 313 digs this year.

“They’re well deserving, they play solid defense, solid hitting, and we have a great setter,” said Marian head coach John “Doc” Fallabel. “Those are three things that make a great team.”

Panther Valley’s Jenna Dubosky earned a spot on the Class 2A squad and finished the season with 218 kills, 316 assists, and 33 blocks.

She was a focal point of a Panthers’ attack that helped capture a District 11 championship, and earn a state playoff appearance. She wrapped up a strong sophomore campaign, and still has a lot of high school volleyball left.

“Jenna was always a team player, and she led us in kills in some of the hardest games we had,” said Panther Valley head coach Nancy Filer.

“She’s a hitter and a setter in our 6-2, so she’s usually touching the ball on every play. She’s just an all-around player She has a nice serve to her, and she also led our team in kills with 218.”
