High school news

Tamaqua Area High School will hold its annual Financial Aid night today starting at 6 p.m. in the senior high library.

A representative from PHEAA will be available to provide information on FAFSA and answer general questions.

The high school music department will present its annual holiday music program on Thursday. The concert will feature the Concert Choir, the Jazz Chorale, Senior High Wind Ensemble and Raider Concert Band.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the music will start at 7:30 p.m.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Nov. 30 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 51 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “God is Everywhere.”

Dolores Walck was welcomed back.

November and December birthdays were celebrated, honoring Lillian Tomsho, Doris Brobst, Nora Sheidy, Anna Mae Yushinsky and Jean Machamer.

The annual Christmas party will be held at noon on Dec. 14 at the Y. That will be the last meeting of the year due to the holidays. The next regular meeting will be on Jan. 11.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older.

Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army’s Older and Bolder group is in the middle of its holiday performance schedule.

The group has been busy all week, with appearances already completed at the Hometown Nursing Center, the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, the Majestic House Apartment Complex, St. Luke’s Miners Campus and Maple Shade Meadows.

The rest of the schedule includes: Dec. 8, York Terrace in Pottsville; and Dec. 15, Union Station in Pottsville from noon to 3 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.; Christmas service at Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery is at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, prayer gathering at 9 a.m., Celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m., caroling to shut-ins at 12:30 p.m., TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, musician practice at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 7:30 p.m.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Rehearsal for the children’s Christmas program will be at 10 a.m. on Dec. 16.
