Palmerton school board names Scherer president
Barry Scherer will again serve as president of the Palmerton Area School District board of directors in 2018.
The board held a brief reorganization meeting Tuesday night and unanimously tabbed Scherer to continue in the role.
Scherer has been president since September following the resignation of board member Chuck Myers.
“I want to thank my fellow board members for the trust and faith to serve in this role,” he said. “As I indicated a couple of months ago, the president is just one of nine and the primary function is to run the meetings. We serve as a team and hopefully we can all do what we’ve been elected to do, which is keep the students first and also serve our taxpayers and our employees.”
New board members Kathy Lendvay Fallow and Katherine J. Baumgardt joined Scherer and Earl Paules, who has been serving as a director since being in September, in taking the oath of office Tuesday.
In another unanimous vote, director Sherry Haas was named board vice president.
Fallow was appointed to serve as the board’s Pennsylvania School Board Association liaison and as its representative on the Carbon Career and Technical Institute joint operating committee.
Haas will be the representative to the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 board of directors.
Palmerton will hold its regular December board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12.
