Carbon conservation district gets $215K

State Sen. John Yudichak, D-Luzerne/Carbon, and Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, announced Thursday that the Carbon County Conservation District has received a $215,000 Growing Greener grant from the Department of Environmental Protection.

The grant will go toward the Carbon County Conservation District’s ongoing stream stabilization efforts along the Nesquehoning Creek.

“I have long been a supporter of the Growing Greener program, and this project by the Carbon County Conservation District is the perfect example of how state programs enable local environmental and economic revitalization,” said Yudichak. “Since 1999, Growing Greener has delivered needed resources to local, on-the-ground organizations that are working to improve the quality of life in northeastern Pennsylvania.”

“I want to thank Governor Wolf for approving this Growing Greener grant and to Sen. Yudichak and Rep. Heffley for their continued support of the Carbon County Conservation District. We are excited to continue our hard work to stabilize the Nesquehoning Creek watershed,” said Chris Storm, district manager of the Carbon County Conservation District.

“These funds will be used to restore vital natural resources after years of industrial activity,” said Heffley. “We must continue to be stewards of our watersheds to ensure future generations can enjoy our pristine wildlife.”
