Whoville Christmas
A free Christmas season event, Whoville Christmas, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Zion Lutheran Church.
Participants will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken with Whoville characters; make Grinch ornaments and cookies; visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus; enjoy hot chocolate and cookies; and view a model train display. There will also be a candy table and diaper depot.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
The church is located at Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets.
GriefShare
The holidays can be especially difficult for those who’ve recently lost a loved one. The GriefShare program has a special session to help you get through those holidays.
A GriefShare seminar, “Surviving the Holidays,” will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 17, at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St. The seminar will offer practical advice for dealing with the holidays when grieving the loss of a loved one. The event is free and open to the public. Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Dec. 7 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 42 members in attendance. Secretary Ruthann Feane opened the meeting with the invocation “Christmas Is Coming.”
Nora Scheidy, Nancy Gerber, Melody Weicker and Anna Mae Yushinsky were added to the sick list.
Refreshments were served.
The annual Christmas party will be held on Dec. 14. This will be the last get-together for the year. The next meeting will be held Jan. 11, weather permitting. Starting with that meeting, it will be brown bag snacks instead of refreshments. Drinks will still be provided.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.
Christmas Eve
Revive Community Fellowship invites the community to a free Christmas Eve celebration at 10 a.m. Dec. 24.
The event will be held at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.
Health series
St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale has been sponsoring a series of continuing education sessions on a variety of health topics. The final session for 2017 will be held on Dec. 15 and will focus on A-Fib.
The session will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the hospital’s first floor community room.

Calvary Evangelical
The Rev. Philip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include the annual Christmas program, presented by the Sunday school classes.
Also this Sunday, a Christmas candlelight service will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m.
Upcoming events are: Dec. 16, Christmas caroling; Dec. 20, prayer meeting at 7 p.m.; Dec. 24, morning worship service at 10:25 a.m.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a presentation of the children’s Christmas program. Participants are to be at the church by 10 a.m.
