A look back: December 13, 1997
Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Pat McGinley, who has served in that position since 1993, will resign at the end of the year, but will remain active as a firefighter.
McGinley, 43, recently received a promotion at work, and therefore does not have the time necessary to continue serving as chief, he said.
McGinley has been an active firefighter in Jim Thorpe since he was 16. Even when he was several years younger, he would ride along in the firetruck driven by his father, James.
One of the highlights of his term as chief was the borough’s purchase of a $365,000 aerial truck last year which replaced a 1957 model that was no longer safe.
