Christmas Eve
Various West End churches have announced their respective worship services for this weekend which includes the fourth Sunday of Advent services and Christmas Eve services.
• Effort UMC will hold regular worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday and Christmas Eve services, then at 6, 8 and 11 p.m. The 8 p.m. service is a traditional candle lighting service and the 11 p.m. service is a Lessons and Carols service.
• McMichaels UMC will have a 9 a.m. and a 7 p.m. worship service.
• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, offers Mass for Advent at 8 a.m. (bilingual) and at 11 a.m. Sunday. Masses for Christmas Eve will be at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday and at 11 a.m. Christmas Day.
• Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will hold two services. The first is at 9 and the second at 11 a.m.
• Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will hold regular worship services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday and then Christmas Eve services at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
• Salem UCC, Gilbert, will hold a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday and then a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m.
• St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown will Christmas Eve services at 9 a.m., 7 p.m., 10 p.m. The morning service includes the children’s pageant, called “Christmas Star.” The 7 p.m. service will be a Family Table Country Christmas Service and the 10 p.m. services will be a traditional candlelight service. A nursery, for infants and children up to age 5, will be available for the 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. services on Dec. 24, but not for the 10 p.m. service.
• St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will have a regular worship service at 10 a.m. this Fourth Sunday of Advent and a 7 p.m. candlelight service for Christmas Eve later.
Christmas dinner
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is offering a free Christmas dinner as well as games, music, and pictures with Santa from noon to 5 p.m. Christmas Day.

Office closings
Many churches and businesses will be closed Christmas Day. There are, of course, some exceptions. Please check out any such closures that might impact your life ahead of time.
CJERP meets
The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Regional Comprehensive group is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building.
Discount skiing
West End Park & Open Space Commission is offering discounted ski tickets for Blue Mountain, Jack Frost/Big Boulder, Shawnee and Elk Mountains.
Tickets are available at the Chestnuthill Park office, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Adult recess
Coming soon to the Eldred Township Community Center is Adult Recess. One evening a week the ETCC will open up the gym for supervised recreational activities, such as basketball, pickleball, pingpong, etc. Check the Facebook page or the Eldred Township website for further information.
General events for January and February include: Mondays at noon, acoustical jam sessions, free and open to anyone interested in playing or listening; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., sewing and quilting. Come and join the group to create wonderful projects for donation to charities or to learn or improve their own skills. They are free and open to anyone interested.
On the first and third Saturday is the West End Food Pantry distribution;
On the second and fourth Saturday Children’s Reading is featured. It is free and open to all.
Thrift Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Thrift Store accepts donations, except on food pantry Saturdays. Donors are asked to check with staff before unloading items.

Organizational event
The new year organizational meetings for the West End’s four townships are:
Chestnuthill Township: 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at the municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Eldred Township: 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road in Kunkletown, followed immediately by the first regular meeting for the new year.
Polk Township: 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at the municipal building in Kresgeville.
Ross Township: 7 p.m. Jan. 2 at the municipal building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg, followed immediately by the first regular meeting for the New Year.
