Celebrating a successful 2017, the nonprofit Lansford Alive has unveiled a new logo and tagline. “Focused On Our Future,” reflects the group’s mission to promote businesses in the borough and revitalize its business district.

“It was time to look at something different. One of our members, Kim Novak, did a great job coming up with different designs, we went back to the drawing table a few times, and we decided on this one,” said Christopher Ondrus, president of the Lansford Alive board of directors.

In 2017, they started Fridays in Lansford, which features specials at local businesses, and promotes the Lansford Historical Society Museum, the No. 9 Mine, and a summer farmers market.

The borough also welcomed new businesses including the Coal Miner Bar & Grill and the Gathering Grounds Cafe.

Last month, they hosted the Panther Valley High School Art Club to paint windows for the third straight year.

“It’s a way to bring the kids out and brighten up the town for the Christmas season,” he said.

They also honored George Krajnak with the Black Diamond Award at the organization’s annual Christmas party.

The Lansford Alive events committee, a separate group that was spun off from Lansford Alive, holds events in the borough. This year they held another Music in the Park and the Panther Valley Ethnic Festival. That allows Lansford Alive to focus on its mission of promoting the downtown.

“We want to focus on the businesses and business district,” Ondrus said.

Optimism is high for 2018, with construction set to begin on a new $1.2 million medical facility for St. Luke’s.

Patients and employees visiting the medical facility may also visit businesses in the borough, Ondrus said.

“I think the St. Luke’s addition is going to be a real anchor building for not only our downtown, but the whole community,” he said.
