A look back: December 27, 1958
John “Butch” Kanuch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Kanuch, 209 W. Ridge St., Lansford, is one of four U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen who will dine with President and Mrs. Eisenhower on Jan. 27 in the White House.
The local resident was informed that he had been selected before leaving for Annapolis for a holiday leave at home.
Four cadets from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point will also attend the dinner party.
“Butch,” a former Lansford High grid great, starred as an end on Navy’s grid team the past three seasons. His recovery of a fumble in the 1956 Army-Navy game paved the way for Navy’s victory in that interservice battle.
