A look back: December 28, 1961

Nine area youths were included among those who were awarded the Boy Scouts’ Eagle rank at ceremonies held last evening in Pottsville.

Recognized by the Appalachian Trail Council were Frank McCartney of Troop 137, Lansford; John Blasko, Michael Zozuka, Barry Cunfer, George Yasenchak and Larry Hoppes, all of Troop 154, Clamtown; and Guy Bowe, Allen Lord and Richard Baker, all of Troop 83, Hometown.

Walter C. Bradbury of Frackville was in charge of the ceremony. The guest speaker was Maj. Gen. Stanley R. Larsen, commanding general of the 21st Army Corps at the Indiantown Gap Military reservation. He used the topic “Today’s Scouts are Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
