Schuylkill County officials get raises; District attorney to make $179,299
Schuylkill County commissioners and row officers on Wednesday received 2.2 percent salary increases that were set in place four years ago.
Commissioners George F. Halcovage Jr., Gary J. Hess and Frank J. Staudenmeier in November 2014 approved a resolution setting the row office salaries from Jan. 1, 2016, though December 2019.
By law, county commissioners are required to set row office salaries the year before their four-year terms end.
State law bars elected officials from changing salaries while they are in office.
The increase was based on the Consumer Price Index, and capped at 3 percent.
Halcovage, who is commissioners’ chairman, saw his salary go from $62,580.19 to $63,956.95; Staudenmeier saw his go from $59,972.69 to $61,292.09; and Hess, from $59,972.69 to $61,292.09.
District Attorney Michael A. O’Pake will earn $179,299. Last year, the position paid $177,868.
Controller Christy D. Joy’s salary went from $59,183.53 to $60,416.91. That includes an additional $3,121 for serving as secretary of the Retirement Board.

Moylan III, from $44,328.74 to $45,303.97; Recorder of Deeds Ann Dudish, from $56,062.53 to $57,295.91; Prothonotary David J. Dutcavich, from $56,062.53 to $57,295.91; Clerk of Courts Maria T. Casey from $56,062.53 to $57,295.91; Register of Wills Theresa Gaffney, from $61,278.66 to $62,626.79, and Sheriff Joseph G. Groody, from $56,062.53 to $57,295.91.
