2018 Reorganization meeting: Coaldale Borough Council
Angela Krapf will once again lead Coaldale Borough Council.
The council held its reorganization meeting Tuesday night, reappointing Krapf as president and Claire Remington as vice president. It also marked the first meeting for new Mayor Herbert Whildin.
The meeting began with Krapf and tax collector Cathy Papesh being sworn in for new four-year terms.
Frank Hutta participated by phone, and Anne Girard was absent.
Krapf was then appointed council president, and Claire Remington was appointed vice president.
“I’m excited,” Krapf said. “I was president for a majority of my last four-year term, and with me in this position we work very well together.”
Remington also seemed optimistic for the position of vice president.
“I’m going to do what I have to do, because everyone has to help out,” she said.
Later in the meeting committee members were reappointed. The former Demolition and Grants committees were combined into one new committee.
Council appointed the following committee chairs:
Thomas Keerans, demolition and grants; Frank Hutta, finance and utilities; Michael Doerr, fire; Remington and Doerr, complex; and Yvonne Stoffey, police.
Keerans was asked to head the fire committee, but declined because of health problems.
“I’m fine with being on it, but I do not want to chair it,” he said.
Remington said she was hesitant to head the complex committee because of issues with other individuals involved in the complex, but agreed to assist with repairing the former high school.
“I want to keep the building structurally sound,” Remington said.
Council discussed, but did not fill a seat on the borough’s vacancy board, which meets if council members are unable to fill a vacant elected position. Remington recommended advertising the position.
“Maybe some young blood, who knows, let’s get more people involved,” she said.
Systems Design Engineering was reappointed as the borough’s engineering firm and Robert Yurchak was reappointed as solicitor. Both votes were unanimous.
