Philly reporter questions Tamaqua board president

Tuesday's regular monthly meeting of the Tamaqua Area School Board was finished in a matter of minutes as everything on the agenda had been discussed at last week's committee meetings. It was after the meeting adjourned that things became a bit heated when a reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer approached board president Larry Wittig concerning his possible resignation.

Wittig immediately tried to shut down the conversation, telling Patricia "Tricia" Nadolny he had nothing to say to her about the article she wrote outlining a woman's accusation concerning what she felt was sexual misconduct in the early 1980s.

When the reporter explained she was just doing her job and trying to get his side of the story, Wittig noted he said all he planned to say on the issue in a Times News article published on Dec.22, 2017,  and quickly left the room surrounded by several supporters.

In that article, Wittig stated he would let the decision concerning a possible resignation to his fellow board members.

Nadolny was able to speak to board vice president Thomas Rottet, who said the board had no plans on asking Witting to resign, "I don't know what happened 30 years ago, but I have zero concerns about Larry's character and his dedication to education".

First this begs the question of why there was NO ONE from the TimesNews asking any questions of Wittig or his cohort Rottet, another case of the good ole boys protecting one of their own. Wittig admitted to inappropriate sexual activities with at least one of the many accusers when she was underage, was charged with rape and yet he is defended by others on the school board. This apparently shows Rottet and others on that school board care not about the safety of our children but are more concerned with protecting one of their own. One must ask why, do the school board and Rottet have internal character issues that parallel those of Wittig failings? Do they have skeletons in their closets they don't want exposed and feel a need to protect an accused child predator so their pasts aren't exposed? Every parent needs to confront these members over their burying their head in the sand and their failure or maybe even collusion in addressing what may be a clear and present danger to our school children. They may think this issue will simply fade away and our tax dollars will continue to flow into the pocket of an accused child predator and his defenders such as Rottet however it will not fade and we will not forget how our children's safety took a back seat simply to protect one of their own country club elitists. Also there are more instances regarding Wittig that weren't reported on, hey Larry remember what you did at the cemetery near the old junior high school with the young sisters, many others do and it was witnessed, heard those sisters are coming back to town and will attend the next school board meeting, perhaps that's why Wittig and Rottet rushed the meeting to a close.
Picture this Larry! Expulsion hearing with the school board. Young adult student tells you this violation was a one-time lapse of judgement. Does the excuse sound like something you have heard before? Can, or better question, will you navigate this particular situation with fairness, honesty and ethics. Don't listen what they say, watch what they do!
