Tamaqua school board business meeting

The Tamaqua Area School Board approved a number of actions during Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting, including plans for the Blue Raiders Marching Band’s next Christmas party, which is scheduled for Dec. 22. The party will be held at Capriotti’s in McAdoo.

The board adopted a number of policies, including those related to the district’s organizational chart, functions, memberships, organization, student representation, meetings, distribution, policy development, board governance standards, code of conduct and use of school facilities.

A number of personnel moves were also approved, with stipends yet to be determined for new hires.

New paraprofessionals are: Christine D’Amato of Barnesville, hired as a part-time employee; Diane Kosciolek of Summit Hill, Rachel Hughes and Eileen Tamagini, both of Tamaqua, hired as substitutes.

Kosciolek, Hughes and Tamagini were also approved as substitute clerical workers. Current full-time paraprofessional Kathleen Murphy had an amendment to her Family and Medical Leave Act request.

Philip Traube, a high school teacher, had his child rearing leave request approved, effective from Dec. 6, 2017, to Jan. 17, 2018.

Other action

• Ben Turrano of Tamaqua was hired as an assistant swim coach;

• Custodian Joseph Wadyak had his retirement date changed from Dec. 29, 2017, to Jan. 3, 2018;

• Lori Remmel was named Media Production (GASPO) adviser at a stipend of $966;

• Lynn Deiter, middle school teacher, and Tyler Skripko, custodian, were approved as volunteers for the drama club.
