Two people are in jail after a shooting Sunday in Eldred Township.

State police at Lehighton said the victim, Robert Purdy, 42, of Kunkletown, was shot in the right leg. No information on the severity or his injury was provided by police.

Jailed are Alan Dunlap, 50, of Kunkletown, and Kristel Wheaton, 33, of Kresgeville. Police said they are lodged in the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, awaiting arraignments at a future date.

The incident happened at 3:30 p.m. on Gannon Lane in the township. Police said Purdy arrived and a disturbance took place. Police said Dunlap, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, asked Wheaton to retrieve a gun from the interior of his home. Then police said he fired two shots toward Purdy, striking him one time in the right leg.

Police said Wheaton was aware that Dunlap was prohibited from possessing the firearm due to his criminal history.

Police said the firearm was recovered and determined to have been previously reported stolen.
