A look back: January 5, 1938

Today’s meeting of the local Rotary Club was addressed by S.E. Prutzman, county superintendent of schools. He had as his guests the members of the Carbon County Board of School Directors, as follows: William Freundt, president; Frank X. Engler, vice president; Seth Dodson, Weatherly, second vice president; Herb Weiss, Franklin Township, secretary; and Howard Smith, Parryville, treasurer.

Prutzman went into the background of early education that eventually led up to the establishment of the present school system as becoming a democracy, and cited a lack of high school facilities in the rural districts and townships of the county.
